It can also automatically return to the location where it left off when its battery runs low during the cleaning process and you don't need to re-clean the same areas. You can manually start and stop cleaning with the voice command or by using the iRobot App. This smart vacuum can also clean in the dark!
Carpet Boost is another great feature. It gives the S9 more suction power when it comes in contact with carpeting, meaning it will pick up more dirt. The S9 has a square-front design which allows it to be closer to corners and walls than older round designs. This model is not compatible well with high-pile or shag carpeting.
In our tests, we found the iRobot S9+ cleaned thoroughly and efficiently a variety of floor surfaces including medium and hard carpets. It also did well on vinyl, and laminate flooring. It also did a nice job of navigating around objects and furniture, although it did struggle with stairs, and can crash into objects like bookcases.
The S9's capability to automatically return to its base and empty its dust bin when it is full was a fantastic feature. It cut down on the requirement for manual maintenance. The dust bin should last for about 30 loads or a month and a half. It's recommended to replace the filter every few months (as suggested by iRobot). Our experience suggests that the iRobot S9+ doesn't get loud during operation, so it's a good option for those living with pets or children.
Eufy RoboVac Hybrid X8
Designed to remove one of the most difficult tasks off your hands, robot vacuum cleaners take care of all the hard work and get hardwood and carpeted floors free of everyday dirt. The best ones can be controlled and monitored via an app on your smartphone, and some even have mopping tech for bathroom and kitchen floors. They're an excellent choice for busy families, and they are becoming more affordable. If you want the latest technology in your robotic cleaner, then you'll have to pay a little more.
The Eufy RoboVac X8 Hybrid is a complete vacuum and mopping machine which makes it a great choice for those who live in a home with multiple floors. Its dual motors give it incredible cleaning power and the 0.6l dustbin can store plenty of pet hair. The dustbin can be taken away and emptied easily this is important because you'll need to clean it regularly.
It's easy to set it up too, although I recommend fully charging the X8 Hybrid before running it for the first time. Install the Eufy Home application and follow the directions to connect it to your WiFi network. The app will help you draw a map of your house. You can name rooms or divide large spaces into smaller rooms (good for open plan living) and guide the X8 Hybrid to specific areas that need cleaning at a given time. Eufy's app is more intuitive and precise than other robots that have similar mapping and scanning functions.
The X8 Hybrid has a great feature: you can turn on the vacuum cleaner or mop via voice thanks to its integration with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. This is a nice addition that makes the robot even more hands-free. And it is working well in our test home.
The X8 Hybrid, like many robotic vacuums, has problems with floors that are not fully covered. It may miss pet hair and small objects, and it is prone to hit things, like its own charger on the base of its charging. It's also not as quiet as some other models we've tested, and the whirring sound could be distracting.
Roborock V3S Pro
This robot isn't as feature-rich as some of the more expensive models we tested however, it does have all the essentials. It has a large enough dust bin that can hold plenty of dirt before it needs emptying and its mop and vacuum system is great for hard floors and low-pile carpets. It's also extremely quiet and we were able to sit and watch television while it was cleaning without feeling like it was blasting us with the sound.
Our test subjects were extremely impressed by how easy the machine was to operate and set up. They also appreciated its ability to remove all the messes from their flooring. It did a good job getting rid of pet hair, messes, and carpeting, but it was more difficult in removing stubborn stains. They found the app easy to use and intuitive, and they could schedule the vacuum to be cleaned on a regular basis to help reduce how much they needed to do manually. The only downside is that it does not have any mapping technology or object avoidance, which means you aren't able to send it to specific rooms or follow virtual boundaries (though magnetic boundary strips can be used).
The V3S Pro is another model from the iRobot's budget line. It offers many impressive features at an affordable price. It topped all other robotic vacuums in our tests when it comes to finding and avoiding obstacles and it's the best option for those who want a smarter self-emptying robot vacuum that can take care of pet hair and messes on both hardwood floors and low-pile carpeting. It's also extremely quiet and has a large dust bin that holds lots of debris before it has to empty, so you don't have to worry about regularly emptying it.
The V3S Pro did not make it onto our top choice lists of trusted sources who conduct hands-on tests, however it received high marks from Modern Castle, Smart Robot Reviews and The Ambient. They were impressed with how easy it was to set up and use, however they also noted that the battery life was very short and it was unable to stay clear of some of the toughest problems we've encountered.
